Summer 2016

Peripheral Vision is at the Rex, as part of the Toronto Jazz Festival, Tuesday, June 28, 5-7pm.  We’re looking forward to our monthly Tranzac gigs over the summer (July 5 with Nick Marshall opening, August 2 with Peter Van Huffel, back from Berlin, opening, and September 6 with Mark Godfrey opening). 

We’re also really excited to perform on the mainstage at the Markham Jazz Festival, Saturday, Aug 20, from 3-4:40pm.

Sheer Tyranny of Will Nominated for a JUNO

Heading to BC

We’re excited to be heading about out to British Columbia for a some gigs in March.  March 24-27 we’ll be in Courtenay, Port Alberni, and Vancouver with the support of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

We’ve also got some exciting new places booked from next November in Europe, including Budapest and Lisbon!

European Tour - Nov 2015

Peripheral Vision is heading back to Europe with tour with stops in Brussels, all over Germany, and Vienna.  We’ll be there November 5-15 - more details on our gigs page.  We’re grateful to be supported by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

We’re back at our monthly first Tuesday of the month Tranzac series with, openers Run Stop Run (Sept 1), Harley Card Quintet (Oct 6), and Matt Lagan (Nov 3).  Then we’ll be heading back to Europe from Nov. 5-17 (Tour funding by the Canada Council for the Arts).

JANUARY 16, 2015

Canadian CD release tour with David Braid and Michael Davidson

We’re embarking on a full Canadian tour, info on the gigs page and on the facebook invite.  We’ll be playing as our normal quartet in some cities, as well as in many cities we’ll be joined by JUNO winning pianist David Braid and vibraphone virtuoso Michael Davidson.  The combined sextet will play a set of our music as well as a set of Braid’s music.  Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts for supporting this tour.

New Album Mastered

We’re excited to announce that our new album is mastered.  We spent the summer with Jean Martin at his studio “The Farm” overdubbing and mixing, and have just got the masters back from Fedge.  We’re really excited, and will be releasing it in the fall.  For now you can check out a couple of tracks in our website’s player.

David Braid with Peripheral Vision

We’re really excited to have been asked by David Braid to play his music at the Rex, June 13 & 14, along with Michael Davidson on vibes.  It’s going to be two nights of really fun (hard) music!  (more info)
Also, after recording in April and editing during May, we’re excited to be moving on to the mixing phase of our new album.  After touring this music so much, we’re really excited to be sharing it on an album soon.

Winter Shows and March Tour

Peripheral Vision is heading back out on tour in March - stops in Regina, Brandon, Saskatoon, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Victoria, Vancouver, Denman Island, and Port Alberni.  We’re really looking forward to coming back to see old friends and making new ones.

Before that we have two February shows at home in Toronto.  February 5 we’ll be at our monthly Tranzac gig with Tara Davidson’s great band, and February 12 we’ll be opening for Friendly Rich and the Lollipop People at the Cameron House.  The Lollipop’s are crazy and amazing and worth going to see!

Montreal Jazz Festival Award

We’re excited to announce that Don’s tune Backbone won the Galaxie Rising Star Award for best composition at the Montreal Jazz Festival.  You can check it out on the player below, or download it from soundcloud here.

We’re excited to be playing at the Sudbury Jazz Festival on September 8th as well as at the Jazz Room in Waterloo on September 15th.  Our regular Tranzac on August 7 with be just the Peripheral Vision rhythm section as a trio, and we’ll be back in full force on September 4th and October 2.  Check the gigs page for the details.  Opening bands include: Ken McDonald Quartet, Allison Au Quartet, Myriad Trio, and Run Stop Run.

At the Montreal Jazz Festival!

We’ve had to wait until today to announce that we’re playing at the Montreal Jazz Festival (June 29th 6:00pm) outside on the TD Stage.  We’re really excited for the opportunity and are competing for the TD Grand Jazz Award and the Galaxie Rising Star Award.

Hope to see you there or at one of our other tour dates  in Alberta (Medicine Hat Jazz Festival), New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and at the The Rex on June 25 at 6:30, during the Toronto Jazz Festival.

Jazz Festival Tour

Peripheral Vision is excited to be heading on tour in Alberta and the Maritimes for a 10 day jazz festival tour (supported by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts!).  We’ll be kicking it off at the Medicine Hat Jazz Festival, and ending up at big exciting festival, which we aren’t allowed to announce until June 4th.  In-between we’re excited to play some new places like Fredericton and Moncton in the east and Red Deer in Alberta, as well as re-visit Halifax, Calgary and Edmonton.  Also look for us in Toronto at The Rex on June 25 at 6:30, during the Toronto Jazz Festival.

JPEC Concert and March Tour

It’s going to be a busy winter for Peripheral Vision.  Most excitingly we’re opening for John Hébert and Lucian Ban’s “Enesco Re-Imagined” as part of the JPEC Concert Series - February 17th.  Check out this amazing band made up of some of our favourite musicians and influences: Joyce Hammann violin, Mat Maneri viola, Ralph Alessi trumpet, Tony Malaby tenor saxophone, Lucian Ban piano and orchestration, John Hebert bass and orchestration, Gerald Cleaver drums, Badal Roy tabla / percussion.

Then in March (23-26) we’re going on tour to Ottawa, Kingston and Montreal.  Check out the gigs page for more info.

We’re also starting a new residency at the Tranzac.  The first Tuesday or every Month (Feb. 7th, April 3rd, May 1st, June 5th).  We’ll be having a different guest opening band each time, to be announced soon.

Announcing Spectacle: Live! CD Release and Tour

We are excited to announce the upcoming release of Spectacle: Live!, recorded at the The Cellar in Vancouver, while on tour last fall.  Along with the CD we will be doing a Western Canadian tour this coming September/October with dates in Victoria, Nanaimo, Denman Island, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Swift Current, Winnipeg, and Brandon.  Visit our gigs page for more info.

May Gigs and Fall Tour

May is a busy month for Peripheral Vision - we’re at the Rex every Sunday night (except the 29th), 7-9, and are also playing at the Tranzac May 10, 7:30-9:30.  All of these gigs are Pay What You Can.  Hope to see you at one of these shows!
The Purple Cabbage, a new Toronto Jazz and Creative Music Review blog, continues to be very supportive of our music.  They recently chose “Says You” for their first “Toronto Mixed Tape” - The Cabbage Tapes: Vol. 1, along with songs by our friends Tara Davidson, Ernesto Cervini and well established Toronto drummer Barry Elmes.

Peripheral Vision Spring Activities

Catch us around Toronto this spring at our new monthly spot at the Tranzac, the second Tuesday of every month, 7:30-9:30, as well as at the Emmet Ray and in May we be doing a weekly show at the Rex Sunday nights, 7-9. See our gigs page for more details
We’re excited to have captured our performance at Vancouver’s The Cellar last November during our CD release tour, and are currently working on mixing and mastering a digital release of that, coming out in May or June 2011.
